How do I add an attachment to a message in the Canvas app on my iOS device?

You can send attachments in conversations messages using the Canvas app.

The images in this lesson are shown for a phone display, but unless otherwise noted, tablet displays mirror the same steps.

Open Messages

In the Dashboard, tap the Messages icon.

Compose New Message

Tap the Compose icon.

Add Attachment

Tap the Paper Clip icon.

Select Attachment Type

To attach an existing photo on your iOS device, tap the Choose from Library... button [1]. Otherwise you can tap the Take Photo or Video button [2] or Record Audio button [3].

To select an existing photo, locate and select a photo from a photo gallery on your device.

To take a new photo, make sure the media option is set to photo [1]. Tap the Camera icon [2].

If you want to re-take the photo, tap the Retake button [1]. Otherwise tap the Use Photo link [2].

To take a new video, swipe your screen to set the media icon to video [1]. To record a new video, tap the Recording button [2].

Note: Canvas may ask permission to access your microphone.

To replay the video, tap the Play button [1]. If you want to re-record the video, tap the Retake button [2]. When you are finished, tap the Use Video button [3].

To stop recording, tap the Stop button.

To replay the audio, tap the Play button [1]. To re-record the audio, press the Record button [2]. When you are finished, tap the Use link [3].

The paper clip icon displays a number indicator showing the number of attachments in your message.

If you want to view or edit your existing attachments, tap the attachment number [1], then tap the Existing Attachments... link [2].

You can share your files with other apps, and you can play back audio and media files to confirm them before sending.

To view your existing attachments, tap the name of the attachment.

Audio and video attachments include a Play button for playback [1]. All files include a Share button [2] to share the file with other apps on your device.

If you want to remove any of the existing attachments, tap the Edit button.

Locate the attachment you wish to remove. Tap the Remove icon.

Delete Attachment

Tap the Delete button [1].

When you're finished editing attachments, tap the Done button [2].

Send Message

To add a message recipient, tap the Add icon [1]. In the compose field [2], type your message. When you are ready to send your message, tap the Send link [3].

Note: New messages will not appear in the Inbox on the Canvas app until there is a reply to the message, but you can view the message in your Sent folder. However, if you have an existing Inbox message with a recipient, the message will appear as part of the Inbox message thread.
