How do I add an attachment to a Discussion in the Canvas app on my iOS device?

You can add photo, audio, and video files to your discussion posts.

The images in this lesson are shown for a phone display, but unless otherwise noted, tablet displays mirror the same steps.

Note: Adding an attachment to a Discussion is a course permission. If you cannot add an attachment, this feature has been disabled in your course.

In the Courses tab, tap the name of the course you'd like to view. Or if it is available, tap the Discussions icon.

Tap the Discussions link.

View Discussions

To view a discussion thread, tap the name of the thread.

To reply to the discussion, tap the Reply icon.

Add Attachment

To add media or attachments to your reply, tap the photo icon.

Select Attachment Type

To attach an existing photo on your iOS device, tap the Choose from Library... button [1]. Otherwise you can tap the Take Photo or Video button [2] or Record Audio button [3].

Select a photo from a photo gallery on your device.

Make sure the media option is set to photo [1]. Tap the Camera icon [2].

If you want to re-take the photo, tap the Retake button [1]. Otherwise tap the Use Photo link [2].

Set the media icon to video [1] by swiping your screen. To record a new video, tap the Recording button [2].

Note: Canvas may ask permission to access your microphone.

Tap the Play button [1] to replay the video. If you want to re-record the video, tap the Retake button [2]. When you are finished, tap the Use Video button [3].

To record audio, tap the Record button.

To stop recording, tap the Stop button.

To replay the audio, tap the Play button [1]. To re-record the audio, press the Record button [2]. When you are finished, tap the Use link [3].

Verify Attachment

Attachments appear in the text field of the discussion [1]. If you add multiple attachments, you can scroll down the text field to view them.

You can add text with your attachment in the text field. When you are finished with your discussion, tap the Post button [2].
