How do I upload a video using the Rich Content Editor?

Canvas recently introduced a new page design called the New Canvas User Interface (UI). Depending on your Canvas view, your page design may vary from the images shown in this lesson. However, the functionality and location of the components remain the same.

You can use the Rich Content Editor to upload a video. The following Canvas features use the Rich Content Editor:

  • Announcements
  • Assignments
  • Discussions
  • Pages
  • Quizzes
  • Syllabus

Open the Rich Content Editor

Open the Rich Content Editor using one of the Canvas features which support the Editor.

Click the Video Clip icon to open the Media Comment Tool.

Upload Media

Click the Upload Media tab.

Select Video File

Choose the Select Video File button. A popup window will appear in your browser.

Select the video you want to upload [1]. Click the Open button [2].

The status bar will show you the progress of your video upload. The speed of your upload will depend on your internet connection and the size of your video. Wait for your media to upload. Once the progress bar is full this window will automatically close.

The uploaded video will be indicated by a link inside the Rich Content Editor..

Save Changes

Click the Save button to save any changes to the post made in the Rich Content Editor.

Note: When using the Rich Content Editor in Assignments, Discussions, Pages, and Quizzes, you have the option to Save & Publish. When using the Rich Content Editor in the Syllabus and Discussions pages, the Save button may appear as “Update Syllabus” or “Post Reply”.
