How do I submit an Assignment on behalf of my Group?

Canvas recently introduced a new page design called the New Canvas User Interface (UI). Depending on your Canvas view, your page design may vary from the images shown in this lesson. However, the functionality and location of the components remain the same.

A group assignment is a way to for instructors to allow students to work together on an assignment and submit it as a group. Only one group member needs to submit the assignment on behalf of the group.

In Course Navigation, click the Assignments link.

Click the Assignment title to open the Assignment.

The Group Assignment will outline what the group needs to do in order to complete the assignment. The instructor will put you in groups to work on the assignment. When you are ready to turn in the assignment, click the Submit Assignment button.

Upload your assignment file [1].

To submit an already uploaded file [2], you will need to move the file from the group folder to the My Files folder.

To move a file, open your user Files.

Find the group folder with the assignment file. Click the name of the assignment file and drag the file to the My Files folder. Once you see the folder highlighted, release your mouse. The file will now be in the My Files folder.

To submit the assignment, click the Click here to find a file you've already uploaded link [1]. Click the expand arrow next to the my files folder to view the files you have uploaded. Click the assignment file name [3].

Click the Submit Assignment button.

Once you submit the assignment, you can see that you turned it in. You can re-submit the assignment until the due date and time.
