How do I properly name my Canvas assignment groups for Q Student Information System grade passback?

As an instructor, your institution may have integrated the Q Student Information System (SIS) and Canvas to communicate enrollment and user data and to allow for grade passback (GPB) from Canvas to Q. Before syncing grades with GPB, you must ensure that your Canvas assignment group names match the grading categories in your Q gradebook. For example, if your Q gradebook has grading categories named Homework, Tests, Participation, and Written Response, your Canvas assignment groups must have the same names.

Notes:

  • The Q and Canvas integration only supports time-based gradebook linking in Q (i.e. linking Fall and Spring gradebooks for the same course). Cross-course gradebook linking in Q is not supported for GPB (i.e. linking a Canvas biology course gradebook with an English course gradebook in Q).
  • If enabled by your institution, you may be able to associate your Canvas assignment groups with your SIS grading categories. Learn more about the Category Sync Tool.
