Troubleshooting: Invalid badges

Occasionally, you'll receive a badge that will not upload to your backpack. If a badge won't upload, it may be invalid or the recipient ID information might not match.

Unfortunately, some issuers of badges have shut down since their badges were originally awarded, and those badges have become unverifiable.

Checking for invalid badges

To check if your badge is valid go to BadgeCheck.io. If you have trouble, follow these step-by-step instructions. Re-uploading your zipped file.

If you've confirmed that your badges are valid through BadgeCheck.io, you may try uploading the zipped file to your backpack again. Depending on how many badges are in the zipped file you may need to try uploading the file multiple times. Uploading your badges one by one.

Some users have reported success with uploading badges one by one to their backpack. To do this, unzip your folder to access each badge. You can click the link in the email to restart the process or use the Add badge button when signed into your backpack. Adding additional email addresses to your Canvas Badges/Credentials account.

Some badges may not upload because the email your badge was awarded to doesn't exactly match one of the emails associated with your account. If the original issuer used any uppercase characters in your email address, add the email address as it was awarded and try again. You may need to add an additional email address(es) to your Canvas Badges/Credentials account or update case variants. Instructions for how to do this can be found here. When adding an email, you may see the message, "Unable to add email: Email '______' may already be in use." This may mean an account already exists for the email you were attempting to add.
