How do I properly name my Canvas assignment groups for Aeries grade passback?

As an instructor, your institution may have integrated the Aeries Student Information System (SIS) and Canvas to communicate enrollment and user data and to allow for grade passback (GPB) from Canvas to Aeries. Before syncing grade with GPB, you must ensure that your Canvas assignment group names match the categories in your Aeries gradebook. For example, if your Aeries gradebook has categories named Homework, Tests, Participation, and Written Response, your Canvas assignment groups must have the same names.

Notes:

  • The Aeries and Canvas integration only supports time-based gradebook linking in Aeries (i.e. linking Fall and Spring gradebooks for the same course). Cross-course gradebook linking in Aeries is not supported for GPB (i.e. linking a biology course gradebook with an English course gradebook in Aeries).
  • If enabled by your institution, you may be able to associate your Canvas assignment groups with your SIS grading categories. Learn more about the Category Sync Tool.
