How do I use free-form comments instead of ratings in a Rubric?

When modifying a rubric, you can choose to enable free-form comments instead of using a ratings scale for each criterion. This  allows the assessor to write and leave comments related to the specific criterion.

Open Assignments

Open Assignments

In Course Navigation, click the Assignments link.

Open Assignment

Click on the assignment title to open the assignment you want to evaluate using a free-form comment based rubric.

Edit Rubric

Click the Pencil icon [1] to edit the Rubric.

Add Free-Form Comments to Rubric

Click the I'll write free-form comments when assessing students check box [1].

Note: Selecting the free-form comments checkbox will replace the ratings scale.

Update Rubric

Click the Update Rubric button.

Open SpeedGrader™

Open SpeedGrader™

Click the SpeedGrader™ button.

Click the View Rubric button.

View the rubric with free form comments enabled. If you saved the comment for reuse, you can find the comment in the drop-down menu.
