How do I enable a podcast feed for a Discussion topic in my course?

Canvas recently introduced a new page design called the New Canvas User Interface (UI). Depending on your Canvas view, your page design may vary from the images shown in this lesson. However, the functionality and location of the components remain the same.

You can insert a podcast feed for your Discussion topics. A podcast is a way to distribute digital content for download on the Internet. A podcast feed is the file you use to distribute your Discussion for users who want to subscribe through external podcasting channels.

Open Discussions

In Course Navigation, click the Discussions link.

Add Discussion

Click the Add Discussion button.

Create Discussion

Create Discussion

Create your discussion by utilizing the following options:

  1. Enter your topic title in the topic title field.
  2. Use the Rich Content Editor to format your content.
  3. Create a podcast feed for the discussion by clicking the Enable podcast feed checkbox.

Include Replies in Podcast

Include Replies in Podcast

Click the Include Replies in podcast feed checkbox to include the replies of students in the podcast feed.

Save and Publish

Save and Publish

If you are ready to publish your discussion, click the Save & Publish button [1]. If you want to create a draft of your discussion and publish it later, click the Save button [2].

When your discussion is saved in a draft state, you can return to the page and publish it at any time by clicking the Publish button.

Remove Podcast Feed

If you need to remove the podcast feed from your Discussion, edit the discussion and uncheck the Enable podcast feed checkbox.
