How do I sort my Gradebook?
Canvas recently introduced a new page design called the New Canvas User Interface (UI). Depending on your Canvas view, your page design may vary from the images shown in this lesson. However, the functionality and location of the components remain the same.
You can sort the Gradebook by student name, secondary id, total grade, individual assignment, assignment group (if you have assignment groups set up), and assignment due date. You can also resize and rearrange the columns in the Gradebook.
Note: Gradebook columns are persistent, meaning the columns will stay in the order they are arranged.
Sort by Student Name
To sort students in ascending or descending order by last name, click the Student Name column title. The column shows student names (first name, last name) but is sorted by last name.
Note: To view and sort your Gradebook via sortable name (last name, first name), you can enable the Sortable Name Feature Option in Course Settings.
Sort by Secondary ID
Sort by Total Grade
To sort students in ascending or descending order by grade percentages, click the Total grade percentage column title.
Note: Viewing the Total column in the Gradebook may be restricted when multiple grading periods are enabled.
Sort by Individual Assignment
Sort by Assignment Group
To sort assignment group percentages in ascending or descending order, click the Assignment Group Name column title. You can only sort by assignment groups if you have added assignment groups to the assignments page.
Note: Viewing Assignment Groups in the Gradebook may be restricted when multiple grading periods are enabled.
Arrange Columns by Assignment Group
Arrange Columns by Due Date
To arrange the columns in the Gradebook by due dates, click the Arrange columns by due date link.
When using differentiated assignments, dates are ordered according to the latest assignment due date.
