How do I use the Canvas Virtual Assistant?
If enabled by your institution, the Canvas Virtual Assistant allows you to find answers to questions about using Canvas.
Notes:
- The Canvas Virtual Assistant is currently a beta feature that is only available to invited members of a closed beta group.
- If you are a member of the beta group, you can share your feedback on the Virtual Assistant.
Open Virtual Assistant

In the Global Navigation Menu, click the Help link [1]. Then click the Canvas Support link [2].
View Virtual Assistant

The Virtual Assistant includes three areas:
- Recommended Canvas Guides [1]
- Canvas Support contact form [2]
- Previous conversations with Virtual Assistant or support agents [3]
View Recommended Guide

The Canvas Guides recommendations update based on the area in Canvas you are currently viewing. To open a recommended guide, click the name of a written lesson [1] or video [2].
The selected lesson or video displays in the Virtual Assistant window [3].
To return to the Virtual Assistant, click the Back icon [4].

Once you have finished reading the guide or watching the video, you can mark the resource as helpful or unhelpful. To mark a guide as helpful, click the Helpful icon [1]. To rate a guide as unhelpful, click the Unhelpful icon [2].
If the resource did not answer your question, you can contact Canvas Support. To begin a live chat with a support agent, click the Live Chat With Support button [3].
To call Canvas support over the phone, click the Call Support button [4].
To begin a support case via email, click the Submit Support Case button [5].

View Conversations

To open an existing conversation with the Virtual Assistant or Canvas Support, click the name of the conversation.
Begin Conversation with Virtual Assistant

Enter your question in the Message field [1]. Then click the Send icon [2].
Detach Assistant Window

To detach the Virtual Assistant from the sidebar, click the Detach icon. Detaching the Virtual Assistant allows you to move it to other areas of your browser window.
Move Assistant Window

To move the Virtual Assistant, click and hold the Move icon. Then drag the Virtual Assistant to your desired location in your browser window.
Note: You can only move the Virtual Assistant window after it has been detached from the sidebar.
Resize Assistant Window

To resize the Virtual Assistant window, click and drag any side of the window.
You can resize the Virtual Assistant when it is attached to or detached from the sidebar.
