How do I properly name my Canvas assignment groups for grade passback?
As an instructor, your institution may have integrated the Sapphire Student Information System (SIS) and Canvas to communicate enrollment and user data and to allow for grade passback (GPB) from Canvas to Sapphire. Before syncing grade with GPB, you must ensure that your Canvas assignment group names match the categories in your Sapphire gradebook. For example, if your Sapphire gradebook has categories named Homework, Tests, Participation, and Written Response, your Canvas assignment groups must have the same names.
Notes:
- The Sapphire and Canvas integration only supports time-based gradebook linking in Sapphire (i.e. linking Fall and Spring gradebooks for the same course). Cross-course gradebook linking in Sapphire is not supported for GPB (i.e. linking a biology course gradebook with an English course gradebook in Sapphire).
- Sapphire grading categories are associated to marking periods, whereas Canvas assignment groups are not associated to any set time period (term or grading period). To ensure that the categories are correctly matched, Sapphire marking period designations have been added to the category title. For example, an Assignments category in Marking Period 1 would have a title of Assignments (M1). Using the category sync feature will assure that Sapphire categories and Canvas assignment groups are correctly aligned for grade syncs.
