How do I add a text (SMS) contact method in Canvas?
Canvas recently introduced a new page design called the New Canvas User Interface (UI). This lesson may include two images for specific steps to show the difference between the two designs. Unless otherwise indicated, the functionality and location of the components remain the same. The view available to you is determined by your institution.
You can add a text or SMS communication channel to receive Canvas notifications on your cell phone. Text or SMS channels appear under the Other Contacts sidebar heading.
Once you have enabled the contact method, learn how to set notification preferences.
Note: If you have an Android device and have enabled push notifications, your Canvas profile will include a For All Devices push contact type. If you delete this contact method, the method will reappear the next time you enable the Canvas app on your Android device.
Open User Settings
Add your phone information:
- Type in the phone number you want to add in the Cell Number field.
- Select the Carrier drop-down menu to add your carrier.
- The SMS Email field will auto-populate depending on your provider.
- When you are finished, click on the Register SMS button. You will receive a text message on your cell phone with an activation code.
