Recent Updates

  • The Alerts page displays assignment and grade alerts for the student(s) you are observing. Learn how to set alerts about a student's coursework.

  • You can access an assignment in SpeedGrader directly from the Gradebook.

Note: SpeedGrader displays assignment submissions according to the current Gradebook settings for inactive enrollments and concluded enrollments.

  • When you download all student submissions from the Gradebook, you can re-upload the assignment submissions as a bulk upload in your course.

Please make sure you have not changed the names of the submission files from your bulk download. If the file names are changed, please rename them to match how they appeared in the download. With different file names, Canvas will not be able to recognize the files that should be replaced.

    Notes:

    • Files must be compressed as a ZIP file for upload. If you are not sure how to create a ZIP file, please contact your administrator or consult your computer's software manual.
    • For best results, please upload submission files in their original format. For instance, if you download a Word document as a .doc, do not convert the file to a .docx.
  • You can resume a quiz you previously started.

Note: If you navigate away from an unfinished timed quiz, the timer will continue running and the quiz will autosubmit when time runs out.

    Accessing my assignments

  • Canvas comes with several widgets for quick access to Grades, Notifications, and the To-Do List.

The images in this lesson are shown for a phone display, but unless otherwise noted, tablet displays mirror the same steps.

Note: Depending on your Android device, the steps to install a widget may vary from what is pictured below. If you have questions, please refer to your device instructions about how to install a widget.

  • If your Modules page asks you to choose an assignment group, you need to choose which assignment(s) you want to select before you can progress to the next assignment.

What is the Roll Call Attendance Tool?

The Attendance (Roll Call) tool is an external app (LTI) used for taking attendance in Canvas courses. The Attendance tool can be used for online or face-to-face courses. Enabled at the account level, the Roll Call Attendance tool can be used by all courses in the Canvas account.

The Attendance tool always appears as a visible Course Navigation link, but it cannot be viewed by students, so hiding the link in Course Settings is not necessary. If instructors do not want to use the Attendance tool in their courses, no action is required. However, if you do use the Attendance tool, students can view their attendance report through the Roll Call Attendance submission details page.

Note: The Attendance tool must be enabled for your institution before it can be used in Canvas courses. If you are an admin, contact your Customer Success Manager for assistance.
