How do I change the start and end dates for my course?
Canvas recently introduced a new page design called the New Canvas User Interface (UI). Depending on your Canvas view, your page design may vary from the images shown in this lesson. However, the functionality and location of the components remain the same.
When a term is created, the student, teacher, and TA access dates will inherit the Term Runs from [date or term start] to [date or term end] dates unless an explicit date is entered in the fields. However, if you open a course and change the access dates in the Course Details, you can override the term date settings.
Set Course Start Date
Set End Date
Click the Calendar icon and select the date on the calendar to set a new end date for the course.
Note: In your end date, if you do not set a time, or you set the end time to midnight, a warning icon will appear notifying you that the date prior to the set end date will be the last available day in the course. For instance, if the course were set to end May 15, the last full available date for the course would be May 14.
Limit User Participation
Select the Users can only participate in the course between these dates checkbox to limit when students will be able to access the course. These dates will override the dates set for the term.
Note: Selecting this checkbox will place the course in an enrolled user's Future Enrollment course section until the start date of the course. If the checkbox is not selected and the course is published before the start date, an enrolled user will be able to access the course.
