  • If your course includes multiple sections, you can limit users in a section to only see users enrolled in the same section. This option is useful when several sections have been cross-listed into a single course.

You can set limitations when adding users to a course, or after students have already been added to the course.

Limiting students to interact by section only affects Collaborations, Chat, People, and Conversations. When enrolling instructors and TAs, section limitations allow those users to grade students in their same section(s).

Discussion topics and Pages are not affected by section limitations and can be viewed by any student. These feature areas could be restricted by creating content in course groups.

Note: The option to limit a user displays even if there is only one section in the course.

  • You can share a video or audio file from your collection with any user in your institution's account and allow them view or edit rights. Users can view shared media in the Shared with Me collection drop-down link. You can change or remove sharing permissions for media at any time.

If you allow a user to view a video or audio file, the user can view the media, have access to the sharing settings embed code and public link, share the media with others, remove themselves from having access to view the media, the details, and comments.

If you allow a user to edit a video or audio file, the user has all permissions allowed as if that user had originally uploaded the media file, including deleting the media, editing details and options, and viewing analytic insights.

This lesson shows you how to share a video directly from the My Collection page. However, when you own a video or a user has shared a video with you, sharing options are also available when viewing a video. You can also share an audio file.

Note: Currently, you cannot share media with a user until Arc verifies the user's account in a course enrollment. Verifications are made when the user views embedded Arc media in a Canvas course. Additionally, you can only share media with users in your Canvas courses.
