00:07: How do I use Files?
00:09: The basic functionality within Files is the same within each location, but
00:14: some features may differ according to feature area. In the All
00:18: My Files page, all folders for your own files and course files display.
00:22: Some folders may be housed within other folders.
00:26: To view the contents of a folder, click the folder name.
00:30: To switch to the old view, click the Switch to Old Files page button.
00:36: Within a folder, you can view the name of each file or folder,
00:39: the date it was created, the date it was modified, the name of the person who modified
00:43: the file or folder, and the file size.
00:47: Courses and groups may display a column for usage rights.
00:50: If enabled, the column displays the user right or copyright
00:54: for the file. You can also view or change the published
00:58: status of files or folders.
01:01: If you are viewing course or group files and you want to view all the files you have access
01:05: to, click the All My Files link.
01:09: To switch to the old view, click the Switch to Old Files page button.
01:13: Files are sorted alphabetically. To sort files,
01:17: click the name of any column heading.
01:20: Depending on the file area, there may be several options to manage files.
01:25: Search for files by file name.
01:28: Add a folder.
01:30: Upload a file.
01:33: Set usage rights or copyright for a file. For courses and groups
01:37: using usage rights, you must set usage rights for a file before
01:40: it can be published. Files that do not contain a usage right
01:44: display as a warning icon.
01:47: Change the state of the file. Files can be published, unpublished or
01:51: include a restricted status.
01:54: To manage an individual file or folder, click the File Options icon. You
01:58: can rename, download, move, or delete the file or folder.
02:02: You can also edit permissions or manage usage rights.
02:06: You can select multiple files or folders at the same time by
02:10: clicking the checkboxes next to the file or folder names. From the
02:15: toolbar, you can download or delete the files or folders.
02:19: To view more settings, click the Options icon. You can bulk edit the permissions
02:24: or manage the usage rights of the files or folders
02:26: you selected. To move the files
02:29: or folders, select the Move To... option.
02:32: If you are an instructor and your course includes blueprint icons, your course
02:37: is associated with a blueprint. Course, blueprint courses are courses managed
02:41: as a template and may contain locked objects managed by a Canvas admin,
02:45: course designer, or other instructor.
02:49: The Course Details tab in Course Settings will tell you if your course is a blueprint
02:53: course. Most commonly, your course will not be a blue print course
02:57: and you can only manage unlocked content in your course.
03:00: If your course is a blueprint course, you can lock and sync course
03:04: content to associated courses.
