What is Smart Search?
This guide applies to institutions who have opted in to the Smart Search feature preview. If your user interface displays differently, the feature has not been enabled at your institution. To learn more about the feature preview, ask questions, or comment on functionality, navigate to the Smart Search user group.
Leveraging semantic algorithms and AI, Smart Search allows users to search Canvas course content by understanding the context of queries and finding relevant results based on that context.
Admins can enable Smart Search setting at the account or sub-account level. This setting can also be locked for sub-accounts. If enabled and locked, Smart Search is enabled in all courses in the account. If enabled and unlocked, teachers can manage the feature preview from the course level.
To learn more about Feature Options, refer to the Canvas Feature Option Summary resource document.
