How do I use the Caption Editor to edit a caption file?

In Canvas Studio, you can use the Caption Editor to edit caption files. Caption files can be uploaded from your computer, or auto-generated.

In your Studio account, locate the media you want to view on the My Library page [1], or using the search field [2].

Media that includes a captioning file displays the captioning badge [3].

To open the media file, click the View link [4].

Click the Captions tab.

Click the Options icon [1]. Then, to edit the caption, click the Edit link [2].

In the Options menu, you can also download the caption file [3], replace the caption file with a file from your computer [4], or permanently delete the captions [5].

Note: Canvas Studio caption files download as SRT files. After downloading, you can convert caption files into word processing files on most computers.

To search for text in the transcript, enter the search terms in the Search for... field [1]. In the search results, the search term displays as bold in the caption block [2].

To open the Caption Editor and edit the text, click the Caption Block [3].

To change the timestamp where the caption displays, enter new times in the Appears At and Until fields [1].

To edit text, enter revisions in the Caption Text field [2].

To save changes, click the Save button [3].

To permanently delete the caption block, click the Delete button [4].  

Note: Deleted caption blocks can not be restored.

Search and Replace

To search for all instances of text in the caption file, enter the text in the Search for field [1]. Then, to replace the text in all instances, click the Replace link [2].

Enter the text you want to replace in the Search for field [1]. To make the search case-sensitive, click the Case-sensitive checkbox [2].

Enter the replacement text in the Replace with field [3]. Then, click the Replace all button [4].  

The replacement confirmation window displays [5], and the selected text displays as highlighted [6].

Note: In the search and replace feature, partial text will be selected and replaced. Be sure to correct any partial text replacements in the Caption Editor.

To insert a new line of text, click the media player timeline at the timestamp where you want to insert text [1]. Alternatively, you can click the Caption Block at the correct timestamp [2]. Then to insert text, click the Insert line button [3].

Enter text in the Caption Text field [4].

To save changes, click the Save button [5].

To permanently delete the caption block, click the Delete button [6].

To close the Caption Editor, click the Close button [7].

Note: Deleted caption blocks can not be restored.
