How do I embed images from Canvas into the New Rich Content Editor as an instructor?
You can embed uploaded image files from your course, user, and group files in Canvas in the New Rich Content Editor. After embedding an image, you can also edit the image display options and add alt tags to your images for better accessibility.
Note: The New Rich Content Editor is currently a course opt-in feature. You can manage your course features in Course Settings.
Open New Rich Content Editor
Open the New Rich Content Editor when creating or editing an announcement, assignment, discussion, page, quiz, or syllabus.
Note: The Rich Content Editor supports keyboard shortcuts. To view a window with a list of keyboard navigation shortcuts, click the Keyboard icon or press Alt+F8 (on a PC keyboard) or Option+Fn+F8 (on a Mac keyboard) simultaneously on your keyboard.
Click the Image Options arrow . To view the Images icon, you may have to click the Options icon .
To view your uploaded course image files, click the Course Images option . To view images saved in your Canvas user files, click the User Images option .
If you open the New Rich Content Editor from a group, you can view uploaded group image files by clicking the Group Images option .
Select Image File
By default, when embedding an image in the New Rich Content Editor, the Add menu displays image files from your selected source .
To change the image file type, click the Type drop-down menu .
To sort image files by date added or alphabetically, click the Date Added drop-down menu . To search for an image, enter the image name in the Search field . You must enter at least three characters for search results to display.
To embed the image, click the image file .
Note: The image will flash before it embeds in the New Rich Content Editor.
View Embedded Image
View the image embedded in the New Rich Content Editor. You can also edit the size of the image and add alt tags for improved accessibility.
Click the Save button.
- The assignment, discussion, pages, and quizzes details pages display a Save & Publish button.
- The Syllabus page displays an Update Syllabus button.
- Discussion replies display a Post Reply button.
View the content created in the New Rich Content Editor.
